First Meeting/ Workshop of Pakistani Women in Mathematics (PWM), 2014

          The first meeting of Pakistani Women in Mathematics (PWM) was held on April 3rd, 2014 atQaid e Azam university, Islamabad (the capital of Pakistan). It was attended by 50 participants from 10 different universities of Pakistan. The meeting was opened by Proff. Dr. Muhammad Ayub, who was a very cooperative organizer from host university.
   After the welcoming remarks a kenote talk was given by Prof. Dr. Khalida Inayat Noor from COMSATS University. Dr. Rashida Adeeb intreoduced European Women in Mathematics Organization. She discussed its positive role in promoting Women Mathematicians all over the world. Then she discussed in detail the building of Pakistani women in mathematics group. She further highlighted that there are very few women mathematicians who works as professors and associate professors in Pakistani universities. She encouraged young women to do hard work and acquire these positions in near future.

  • Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayub, Quaid-i-Azam University , Islamabad.

  • Dr. Saima Anis, COMSATS, Abbottabad


The objectives of the meeting were:
1. To bring together women mathematicians, and their collaboration with like mind people
2. To encourage women to study mathematics
3. To promote careers in mathematical sciences
4. Collaboration with other local/international organisations with similar goals

In general the mathematical program consisted of talks, informal discussions and nomination of few members of PWM standing committee. The event was
closed with thanks to all the participants.
